Leslie Cornejo

Leslie CornejoLeslie Cornejo has been a resident of Ventura County for 24 years, living in Simi Valley 7 years and moving to Oxnard in 1990. She was born in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, and moved to California in 1964. She is bilingual and graduated with honors from U.C. Irvine with a B.A in Spanish.

Leslie is married to Enrique Cornejo, an immigrant from Chile. They have three sons, ages 23, 21 and 16 and own and operate a retail travel agency in Santa Paula. In addition Leslie is a founder/director of SCVBank (branches in Santa Paula, Fillmore and Valencia Town Center), and has served as President, Treasurer and Secretary for the Gold Coast Travellarians. She has been a Soroptimist since 1995 and chaired the Women of Distinction program for several years. She was a team captain in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Oxnard in 2002 and 2004.

Leslie, a graduate of the Marian Bergeson Excellence in Public Service Series, was recently elected to the series board of directors. She has been active in Ventura County politics for many years and continues to work for better representation in government. In 2006 she was named a state chair of Governor Schwarzenegger’s Remarkable Women campaign. Her political philosophy is based on giving the people a voice and taking the mystery out of politics.
